GBL Architects is a Vancouver firm of architects, interior designers, project managers and technicians, delivering a full range of architectural services to the private and public sectors. Their WordPress site no longer reflected the quality of their work. It was slow, heavy on plugins and hard for the team to update. They came to us for a full redesign: modern, image-led and easy to manage.

Our Approach

No formula, all context: a site that steps back and lets the architecture speak.

We started with strategy, mapping GBL’s goals, audiences and content before any design work began. From there, we planned a new sitemap and wireframed every key page with a mobile-first approach, then moved into high-fidelity design. The result is a clean, elegant and minimalist interface, with full-screen, image-led project pages and a Studio page that introduces the team and their services.

We moved the site from WordPress to a custom Statamic build, with content modelled around how GBL works. Visitors can filter projects by sector or type, and every project follows a consistent structure, so adding new work is quick and simple for the team.

The Outcome

A portfolio that’s faster to browse, easier to update, and ready to grow.

The new site is faster than the old WordPress build, without the plugin weight that slowed it down. GBL’s team now adds and updates projects on their own, keeping the portfolio current without waiting on a developer.

The response from clients and the industry has been positive, and GBL Principal Andrew Emmerson describes the result as “a website that we are extremely proud of.” Built to WCAG Level AA standards, the site gives GBL a portfolio that matches the quality of the buildings in it.
