Browser Statistics

Testing on all major browsers is essential when designing and developing your website. A client asked me the other day what the majority of people are using for their browser, and thanks to W3Schools, we get an approximate based on their website log files.

Here is what August looked like over the past 2 years:

IE 6 IE 7 IE 8 Firefox Chrome Safari Opera
August 2009 13.6% 15.1% 10.6% 47.4% 7.0% 3.3% 2.1%
August 2008 24.5% 26.0% N/A 43.7% NA 2.6% 2.1%

As you can see, the dreaded IE 6 is down dramatically which is a relief to almost all developers. IE 6 is outdated and incompatible with many new web technologies.

    Not so sure IE 7 and 8 are as far down the scale as that. I’m going to have to read up on how they tally results. Thanks for the post.
